The client is the Junta Municipal de Agua y Saneamiento de Juárez (JMAS Juárez) in the Mexican state of Chihuahua. The project involved the detection of non-revenue water (NRW), as well as the location of leaks along 74km of the primary and secondary drinking water network in Anapra. To this end, five different inspection technologies were used, including acoustic systems and tracer gas (helium). The client expected to reduce non-revenue water considerably, given that its abstraction volumes did not tally with the amounts billed.

In this project, Idrica played the role of contractor, and provided the crews and the five technological leak detection solutions, including the acoustic equipment, the geophone, the correlator, the multipoint correlator, the tracer gas, and the endoscopic camera.
The main constraints encountered when detecting NRW were:
This project showcases Idrica’s expertise in leak detection using helium tracer gas, a technique that has proven to be highly effective in locating leaks that are not detected using acoustic methods.
Thanks to the non-visible leak detection program, the client located 140 leaks in six weeks, with an average distance of 0.5 km between them. This benefited over 20,000 people and saved 148,000 liters per day.
